White TeaA lot of press has been given to this category in recent months.
Simply stated,White tea is tea from the tea plant in which the leaves and buds of the plant are minimally processed. This most prized portion of the of the plant is merely steamed and dried. In most cases the tips are "white/silver" and hairy in appearance--denoting a "bud"( a forming leaf ).
The resulting brew is white in color due to a low chlorophyll content (remember--this is a baby leaf) and low in astringency (low tannins).Liquor is light with a slightly sweet flavor without the grassy notes of most Green teas.
But it gets better......white tea is low in caffeine and super high in polyphenols--some claim as much as 30x more potent than vitamin C or E and 10x that of green tea!!! For heart health, white tea is shown to reduce blood pressure, reduce the formation of clots and is a formidable anti-cancer agent reducing the chance of DNA damage especially in the colon.
In the case of our Imperial White Tea, 150,000 tips are required to make 1 lb of tea for consumption--and although it is a bit pricier, think of the all the hand labor it requires to produce a tea that can do so much for you .On a per seving basis, it breaks down to $0.60/per cup.
What a bargain!!
We purchase our White teas direct from their source in sealed containers assuring you peak flavor and nutrition.
